In October 2025 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to work on Metal-Organic Frameworks. Within weeks the acronym started appearing in skincare copy, usually with no explanation attached and an implication of endorsement that was never there.
The chemistry is worth understanding on its own terms, because the mechanism is unusual and it is the reason LHALA Peel behaves the way it does. Here is what a MOF is, what INCUBE does with those principles, and where the line sits between the two.
What a Metal-Organic Framework is
A MOF is a crystalline material built from metal nodes connected by organic linkers. The nodes and linkers assemble into a rigid, repeating lattice, and the lattice is mostly empty space — a regular array of pores running through the structure.
That emptiness is the property that matters. Because the pores are ordered and repeat at molecular scale, a gram of MOF can present an internal surface area measured in hundreds or thousands of square meters. The material is, in effect, a sponge with a designed pore size.
Designed is the operative word. Change the linker and you change the pore dimensions and the chemistry of the pore walls, which changes what the framework will hold and what it will ignore. This is why MOFs are studied for carbon capture, gas storage and water harvesting: the same structural idea, tuned to a different target molecule.
Why selective adsorption is interesting in a peel
A conventional peel is subtractive in one direction. It removes tissue, and the skin’s repair response does the rest. The inflammatory phase is not a flaw in that design; it is the engine.
Selective adsorption offers a different lever. If a material can be tuned to capture and hold specific substances, the question stops being how much to remove and becomes what to remove. That is a meaningful change of framing for a peel, because it separates renewal from the inflammatory response that usually pays for it.
INCUBE is the component in the fourth-generation peel that applies MOF principles to that end: adsorbing and removing inflammation-inducing substances during the peel, so renewal proceeds without depending on a provoked inflammatory response. It appears in the line as INCUBE 504 in LHALA Peel, INCUBE 501 in LHALA Ole, and INCUBE 701 in the PLLA range.
Where the line sits
This is the part most copy skips, so it is worth being exact.
The 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry recognized foundational work on Metal-Organic Frameworks. It did not recognize LHALALA, H2MEDI, INCUBE, or any cosmetic application of that chemistry. No prize endorses a product, and a shared field of chemistry is not a credential.
What is accurate to say is narrower and still substantial: INCUBE applies MOF principles, and MOF chemistry is significant enough that its originators were awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize. The distinction is not legal caution for its own sake. A claim you have to walk back in front of a client costs more than the claim was ever worth.
Who holds what. INCUBE is covered by Korean patents granted to LabInCube (KR102768791B1, granted 18 February 2025) and to LabInCube together with Sookmyung Women’s University (KR102854328B1, granted 3 September 2025).
H2sol is a pending Korean application (KR 10-2024-0109462); no grant has been identified. QPT is covered by KR102225383B1, granted 3 March 2021 to the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea, and describes marine carbon quantum dots derived from Ulva linza.
These are third-party rights. The technology is not patented by LHALALA and not patented by H2MEDI, which manufactures the line. Which patent applies to which individual product is still being confirmed with the manufacturer.
What this does and does not tell you
A mechanism is a reason to look closely, not a result. The case for INCUBE is that the mechanism is specific, named, and attached to granted patents you can look up — which is more than most actives in this market offer.
What exists on file today is irritation testing: LHALA Peel Basic and Ultra, 30 volunteers per format, non-irritant in both. That measures tolerance, not performance, and it is specific to those formats. Clinical efficacy data for the U.S. market has not been supplied, and until it is, the honest position is that the mechanism is documented and the outcome evidence is still being assembled.
LHALA Peel is intended for professional, in-office use, external use only. The technology page sets out the full formulation, and the U.S. team can share what documentation currently exists before you commit to a trial.
